EPCOT's New Transformation

The Next Chapter of EPCOT

For years, I've thought that of all of the theme parks at Walt Disney World, EPCOT needed a new attraction. It's something exciting with a high re-ride factor. But as always, the Imagineers know what they're doing. On May 27th, 2022, EPCOT opened its doors to its first rollercoaster, Guardians of the Galaxy, Cosmic Rewind.

Yet this was just the beginning of what was in store for this iconic theme park. One of Walt Disney's memorable quotes about EPCOT is that it "would always be in a state of becoming," adjusting as the world around it changed. Now, EPCOT is transforming parts of its four neighborhoods: World Celebration, World Discovery, World Showcase, and World Nature. I'm very excited to experience what's new for EPCOT, including Dreamers Point and Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana.

Embracing the Element of Surprise

Lately, I've become more appreciative of the element of surprise with Disney attractions and entertainment. I don't like watching ride run-throughs or reading reviews until after I've experienced what's new. I was the same when Cosmic Rewind opened.

Before riding, all I knew was that it had a Guardians of the Galaxy theme, was Disney's first omnicoaster (rotating ride vehicle), and was the first reverse launch for any Disney coaster. Earlier this year, my husband and I visited Walt Disney World and rode Cosmic Rewind, not once, not twice, but four times during our week-long visit. We were hooked from the ride's music to the thrilling tract of the roller coaster.

I believe Cosmic Rewind elevated EPCOT's attraction list, likening it to Hollywood Studios. Yet, each theme park is unique, and with the opening of Dreamer's Point and Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana, EPCOT is able to stay true to its theme of inspiring the future while honoring the cultures that make the world.

EPCOT's Dreamers Point: A Tribute to Walt's Vision

Opened in late 2023, Dreamers Point is an open walkway just outside Spaceship Earth. The area will feature a bronze "Walt the Dreamer" statue of Disney, the likeness of an old photograph, and a futuristic garden. With beautiful views of the World Showcase that the statue will always face and admire, Dreamers Point will serve as a tribute to Walt's dreams to inspire and create.

Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana: A Magical Odyssey

One of my favorite things about EPCOT is its celebration of people, cultures, and nature. Walt Disney Studios has released a particular movie that highlights those themes. Can you think of it...Moana! Now, Imagineers have brought film elements to life and created an experience, Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana. This new experience magically celebrates water by allowing guests to venture through an exploration trail and learn how to protect the water cycle in fun and engaging ways.

EPCOT: A Tapestry of Cultures and Nature

Out of all of the iconic theme parks at Walt Disney World, EPCOT is the most special as it reminds us that we are not only humans but citizens of the world, all with a duty to protect Mother Earth for our generation and others, innovate to improve and elevate our way of living, and most importantly, never stop dreaming. Walt Disney once said, “Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world." Yet, his quote holds to all Disney Parks and experiences, so here's to the next chapter of EPCOT!
